To Read or Not to Read: Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Hey so I’ve been wanting to do something new with my blog for a while and I’ve finally kicked myself in to doing it. I’ve been pretty busy, leaving China, looking for jobs, applying for university, getting in to uni and deciding what I want to do with my life. Writing and reading books fits in somewhere in that. So here I am trying something new – or not. I have to write blog posts for my course and it made me realise how much I missed this.

Quick flash reviews – completely opinionated, quick to read and write ;D.

To Read or Not To Read: READ IT.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

5 / 5 stars

This was the last book on my  contemporary hunt, it’s been out a long time but it was a great read and if you’ve been putting it off, stop.

Read it if you like: quirky characters, great narrative voices and stories about school life.

Why I like it:

  • The characters are wonderful, their emotions and actions feel very real.
  • Eleanor’s home life was super interesting to read about and Park’s was quirky.
  • It was set in the 70s I think and so it had this very retro feel to it, which can be a cliche but it worked for this novel.
  • Neither of the MC’s were stereotypical.

And that’s it from me for now. If you’re one of those people that revels in reading negative reviews I’m sure I’ll find some book that makes me angry soon, this just wasn’t one of them.
